Finding a counselor or therapist in Atlanta can be tough. Atlanta is a growing, vibrant city with great sports teams, new businesses, and a robust music scene. While everyone is so active and there are so many opportunities, there are a lot of people who are struggling with anxiety, depression, or new life opportunities. Knowing you need help is a very brave and courageous step, but it can be tough to identify the next step. In such a big city with so many therapists, how do you know which is the right therapist near me for me?

I want to help you find a therapist in Atlanta

As a counselor, I am passionate about helping people finding the right help for them. If I was sitting with a friend who was looking for a counselor I would ask a couple questions:

  • What are you looking for help with? A life coach can help you focus on the future and overcome barriers, but may not work on more complex issues like anxiety or depression. A counselor or psychotherapist can help you work through complex problems and help identify a path for the future. Research their specialities and what they are trained in.

  • Who do you feel comfortable with? Are you looking for a male or a female? Do you want someone younger or older? If you imagined your ideal counselor, what would they look and feel like?

  • What are you willing to invest? Some counselors are private pay and out of network, some take insurance, some offer sliding scales. Of course, everyone wants to save money, but therapy is an investment. Think about how much you are willing to invest in yourself.

  • Interview several counselors. You don’t have to go with the first counselor you find. Reach out and ask them what they work with and see if they are a good fit for you. Remember, therapists are here to help you so find someone that works for YOU first.

  • Ask a friend who they recommend. Friends are THE best recommendations for a counselor who would be a good fit for you.

  • Check out Psychology Today. Psychology Today is the premiere directory for therapists. Look through and see if any fits for you.
